Group Assignment

This site was created specifically for the students in Professor Robinsons' EDM 510 class. We are going to design  and collaborate with  group members for an assignment. Only group members will participate.

21st Century Classroom

Group B,
I would like to know your thoughts about the ideal classroom? Please list some of your ideas such as: What would it be like? How and where would you prefer to learn? What type of activities would you and your classmates be performing? After you've posted I would like to implement and hopefully incorporate some of your ideas into my classroom.

  1. In my ideal classroom, we would not learn with worksheets. Our teacher would let us do most of the talking. The teacher would find out how we learn and teach us that way. Each student would have his or her own computer and most assignments and assessments would be done on those computers. The room would be neat and clean with bright colors. The teacher would never demean, humiliate, or raise their voice in anger. He or she would be a positive influence in the classroom and would always project a love of learning and belief in us and our abilities.

  2. My biggest complaint with teaching is classroom management. My ideal classroom would be one where all students want to learn, do not disrupt the classroom, and respect the teacher and each other. All students would have working computers. The teacher would have any technological tools he or she needs. I prefer to learn by "doing." I enjoy creative projects that are relevant to me.

  4. I think an interactive environment is the most successful learning environment. I feel that if you teach "to" kids, with no student participation they tend to "tune out."

I would have very few rules, but those rules would be reasonable and firm. Also, computers and a reading area with learning games would be avaliable for those times when you have some students still working or testing and others with time on their hands. I wouldn't want any "busy work."

My mentor told me that "kids don't care what you know until they know you care." I think that's probably one of the most important things to establish in a classroom, they need to know you're there for them.

  5. I would love to have an exciting and inviting classroom. I want my students to be excited and engaged to learn. I want to have bright colors and useful messages throughout the room. Students will have an easy to use, organized classroom library and centers. I would like to have two Smartboards in my room as well as working desktop computers for students to use. My ideal classroom would be a positive learning atmosphere. My ideal classroom would include a resourceful classroom, dedicated students, and a hardworking, effective teacher.

  6. I'm loving all of the useful comments and I am encouraged by your views of what an ideal classroom should be like. I love to take new ideas and incorporate them; it creates a fresh environment and my students need something to spark them around this time of year.

  7. I appreciate all of the feedback and I realize if my students are engaged in learning the less discipline problems I will have to deal with.

  8. The ideal classroom for me is interactive, colorful and neat. Technology is ultilized to make instruction interesting. Students are encouraged to discuss and share ideas. I also think all classrooms should have music! I was fortunate to have many elementary teachers who incorporated music into the classroom. I still vividly remember a "Peter and the Wolf" LP that my 1st grade teacher played.

I need to incorporate more music in class. I bet my students would enjoy some uplifting fun and excitement.

  10. Place where the students feel safe and welcomed is for me ideal classroom. I want to make fun, exciting environment for my students where they will fell free to come up with any issue. We will have open communication about everything. On the beginning I will focus on culture and introduce different culture to the students. Students will make something that presents their culture or write the poem. We will make sure that each student is threaded equally. They will have only one rule, to keep clean and organized classroom. Everything has to have a place and they have to put it back, after using it.
